Thanks, jbuck! On Saturday, I scooped up another 4,400 nickels from five different banks. I found a total of 47 pre-60s including a 1935 Buffalo, 1943-P, 1945-D, and 1945-S (2) War Nickels, one each of 1949-S, 1951-S, and 1958 Philly, along with a nice little obverse 1980-D MAD. I was also very happy to find TEN 2009-Ds amongst the rolls!

Nice finds, John77! Went through a box this past weekend, and we found (3) 1943S Silver War Nickels in the first 25 rolls of the box. None in the 2nd half of the box, but a fun hunt nonetheless!

Thanks, jbuck and dadscoinhobby! And nice box - 3 War Nickels is definitely well above average. I once got a box with 5 of them.

I am starting to dump any nickel except Buffalo nickels, silver WW2 nickels, and low mintage nickels that I know of. I have way too many pre-1960 nickels, so I am dumping a bunch hoping another collector may find them in rolls and cherish them just like I did. I did find a 1950-D nickel, which I kept because I know those are rare. I still have some more nickel rolls to look through.

Several months ago, I did this with the eight most common pre-60s (1940, 1941, 1946, 1954-D, 1956-D, 1957-D, 1958-D, and 1959-D). I took all of the lower grade ones of the coins in the 40s, and all of the below XF/AUs of the ones in the 50s and sent them packing.

We've done the same. Typically catch and release of any common 50's nickels, but we've still been keeping all the 1940-1950 nickels. Will probably do a release of the common ones at some point.
Our box this weekend was alright. Highlights were 3 2009Ds, a 53S and 54S along with one 1944P Silver.

I spent Saturday afternoon into Sunday morning going through another box of nickels purchased on 2-12-2020 and found 1944-P and 1945-S War Nickels, along with a 1948-S amongst 17 pre-60s, 5 2009-Ds, my first three 2020-D dated coins and a 1951 Belgium 1 Franc coin. On 2-15-2020, I bought another 6,120 nickels, finding 76 pre-60s (31 were out of a batch of 25 MWR purchased at a local Wells Fargo - likely from that same fruitful batch I first stumbled upon on 1-8-2020 which had 51 pre-60s). There were 1943-P, 1943-S, and 1945-S War Nickels along with a 1938 Philly and a 1951-S and a total of 6 2009-Ds.
