Thanks, all! My nickels this year are just off the charts... I can't quite explain it.

Another 1,000 MWR of nickels purchased today from my lucky teller... produced my typical results with her... 9 pre-60s, including yet another Buffalo (1917), a 1962 Proof, and a 2009-D... and another crazy streak - 6 straight weeks getting at least one Buffalo from her coins.

Awesome finds! The number of nickels you go through is truly astounding. I only average 200/week!

My favorite is that 1958 Philly in the center, with the massive Die Deterioration. Those letters look epic compared to the coins on either side, both obverse and reverse.

@John77 Great finds and congrats! Just one question: How do you get your bank to give you all these nickel boxes? I have a suspicion the bank teller might like you ;-)

Brandmeister, I've got quite a few similar-looking '58 Philly nickels... one of these days I'll gather them all together and post them here. The craziest thing is I got all three of those '58 Phillies out of one batch of 1,000 coins!

Well, AllSeasons, I actually buy 1/2 box of nickels pretty much every time I go in there (4-5x a week), so the manager there usually orders a few extra boxes of nickels every week to take my tendencies into account...

And that suspicion of yours about said bank teller is definitely true - she's become one of my best friends these past five months. Her boyfriend is a great person too. I've spent a good amount of time with both of them lately outside of the bank.

I know I have asked this before, so please bear with me. Ruined proofs are one of my Achilles' Heels (the other is my nemesis: MINT MARKS ).

How do you know that 1962 nickel is a proof? To me it just looks like a good condition ordinary nickel.

Proofs typically have a much better strike than circulation coins (they will typically have full steps which is almost impossible to get on 60s nickels)

This reply would most definitely be true...

The strike indeed for one, the reflective surfaces for another... this coin exhibits both even though it is very well-circulated - it is hard to see the reflective surfaces from the original angle thanks to how long this coin was out in the wild. When you tip it to more of an angle, it definitely becomes much more clear that it indeed is a proof. The full steps are there, despite the heavy circulation, only marred by a couple of nasty hits.

Well, that makes me wonder about some of the 1960s nickels that I have tucked away over my months of CRH. Some of them had a more prominent Monticello building and a nice bust with at least partial steps. Those might bear some re-examination when things have settled down in the fall.

Well, they have to be Philadelphia minted (if they are 1964 and earlier) or San Francisco minted (1968 and later).

After a few weeks of visiting every local Wells Fargo and getting either CWR or new 2022 Ps in MWR, I had all but given up on good hunts after our big move. Today I drove a little farther out and got another mix of CWR and uncirc 2022 P MWR, but decided to suck it up as this teller gave me 3 MWR of Westward Journey mint rolls (2005 P and D ocean in view, 2004 P peace medal). The end coins as expected are absolutely gorgeous gold toned nickels which we will sell off. Interestingly, one of the rolls today that I thought was custom wrapped was actually an old, untouched fed roll of 2005 P bisons, all gold toned, with no Ring of Death on any of them. Tubed them up.

Onto the CWR - of the 35 rolls I collected, 27 were bona fide CWR and boy did they not disappoint. I suspect some were from a collection dump as one roll yielded a 39 P, a 39 D (the second we have found this summer!), 41 P, 41 D, 57 P and 57 D, plus a beautiful 64 P and 68 S. Another CWR produced a dateless Buffalo and a nicely detailed 44 P. Overall well over 30 finds in 27 CWR, some of them post 1960 upgrades but finding a 39 D was something else. I'll roll up the discards tonight, dump tomorrow and revisit that branch for whatever CWR they have left.
