I often come across coins with "Tops" or "Bottoms" that are straight lines of the letter image. Example the U has two straight lines on each part of the U. Is this the strong strike split plating effect? I see this on all coins, cents, nickels, quarters, etc. Thanks for your help.

The area above the top of the "U" is Die Deterioration. (devices show wear to the rim) The lines to the side maybe damage to the die while polishing, that left those lines. They are not in the direction of normal die wear. So I feel they must have been altered during a polishing process. IMOHO
