http://www.ebay.com/itm/30181083464...RK:MEBIDX:ITWas able to offer $325 instead of the full $350 and counting ebay bucks it came down to just over $250 for everything. I believe what makes it worth is some of the better dated coins included in the album. In order to afford it (and to appease my wife ;P) I will be selling off the key dates and eventually replacing them with more common dates and possibly a little lower grades. Too bad I couldn't get the NGC/Krause prices for some of them but total I think I could save around $75 from some of the nicer ones. All in all, I see it as the type album, at least $70 in spot silver prices, and around 50 other really nice coins for about $175! Not terrible I think, and now I have added my third Dansco type album (along with US and Japan)! I love these! Next on my list (eventually) is Canada! Have a great day!

Very nice! Quote: In order to afford it (and to appease my wife ;P) I will be selling off the key dates and eventually replacing them with more common dates and possibly a little lower grades. You have a strong will. I would not be able to that.

I know, Jbuck I really wouldn't want to but I would rather have lower grade examples and have the rest of the goodies rather than nothing at all. I make it work.

Ok received the Mexico Type album! The seller even included some extras too! The only problem... and I am not sure how big a problem this is.. the album smells like smoke. Is there anything I could do for that or would it be better to just return it? The coins look great but I hate the smoke smell and definitely wouldn't want the smell to catch on to any of my other albums... :( definitely a bummer. Any help would be appreciated! P.S. Should I make this question a separate thread?

Sorry to hear that. Looks like you found the same thread I did... https://goccf.com/t/226911I would remove all the coins. Give them an acetone soak, then an acetone rinse. You will need to let the album air out for a while. I think the baking soda will help. Make sure you take out all of the slides, front and back. You might also want to remove the pages from the binder to increase surface exposure to clear air.

I have a dealer who I buy many coins from, but he is a chain smoker, when I purchase big lots from him, they spend some time with baking soda in a safe, then they air out for a bit... Takes a bit for the odor to go away, but it eventually does...

I was the one who originally posted the cigar post... My update- 1 of the albums was not salvageable, it must have been used as an ashtray. The other 2 eventually aired out enough and the smell diminished (or maybe I just got used to it)... I'll give them a nice big whiff later and let you know if they are totally recovered. It was really bad at first. I had originally kept them in my desk draw and my entire office smelled like a cigar shop.
All I did was air them out for possibly weeks. I don't remember how long. Is the Mexico type album tough to track down? If not, maybe it would be worth trying to negotiate with the seller for a discount. They must be aware of the possible complaint.
I think in my case I had gotten 3 really good shape danscos for like $15 with free shipping and wanted to make it work.

Just for imagination- my package arrived and I opened it to find packing peanuts (didn't know they were still in existence) that were marinated with cigarette smoke and then the albums just floating in the peanuts that were marinated in cigar smoke... I cracked the box open and felt like I was back in a bar before cigarette smoke was banned.

I personally would negotiate with the dealer to see if a discount can be agreed upon.
The Mexico Type Set album, while rare, can be found in better shape if you search. That being said, the album is a big portion of this lot that you've won, so the cigar smoke is not something you can easily shrug off either.
Whatever you choose to do, I'm glad to see you're going down the Mexico type set path. I'm working on one myself. It's a fun adventure filled with, in my opinion, some of the most gorgeous coins ever minted.

Well I am trying the baking soda and have separated everything out. Also gave the coins baths and the coins themselves didn't seem to smell like smoke. I contacted the seller and she stated that she didn't even think about that her albums were in her eldest son's room but moved the bookcase out and she said if I wanted to keep them she would give me $25 back so I am trying to see if I can save it a little within the next week. If not I will probably return it, which is a shame since the coins in the album look really nice. We will see if the baking soda helps a little!

And yes, Atlas, I am attempting to track down various Dansco foreign type albums and have US, Japan, and (hopefully) the Mexico ones. I have seen a couple Canada ones but they are wanting $600-1500 filled with coins. At least this one seemed a cheaper option.
