I don't like how it's deeper in some areas and how it appears slightly bent. The striking process would solve that. Inside the cuts, the metal looks really shiny, not consistent with the colour on the rest of the coin.
The question is, is the coin struck on top of the lines, or are the lines on top of the coin.
The lay over helps, but, if there is a slight die rotation It's inconclusive to determining weather it's genuine.

I think it is legit, these are really tough to tell, until you get them in hand. For some reason, most I have seen are also dated 1963...

Yep - everything looks correct. It's a genuine piece.

I am now wondering about the legitimacy of this coin only because the seller has had 4 error coins flagged as suspicious by forum members in the last 2 weeks.

I was the under-bidder on the incomplete clip cent. I think it is genuine & sold pretty cheap. Nice full red color on it.

Sorry about that Joe!! I had put a snipe bid on that one as soon as it was listed... these are somewhat easier to get in circulated condition, but hard to find in mint state condition. The final selling price actually surprised me, I figured it would sell north of $60...

No problem Roger. I don't need it for my collection, I just thought it was pretty. I'm glad it's going to a good home. It seems to me like some coins on ebay have been going for cheap in the past week - people busy with Christmas plans maybe.

SPP-ottawa, hate to steer off the topic but did you win the nickel dollar I linked you?

ebay has been a real dogs breakfast in the past year with errors. Minor errors getting crazy money, but more complicated errors are sliding under the radar... I tend to bid on most errors, I like having a strong error inventory at coin shows. Some are gambles, some are lessons to learn... but overall, it has been an aspect of the hobby I have embraced. A little bit of trivia for you Joe, my very first error purchases were the clipped nickel dollars you sold me when I lived in Edmonton... and then you created a monster!!

Glad I could help create the monster Roger. I always wanted to be a mad scientist. Quote: but more complicated errors are sliding under the radar... I think maybe collectors buy what they know and are cautious with more complicated errors. That has got to be a good thing.

Unfortunately the seller would not ship outside of Canada so us U.S. people didn't get a chance at this one. I would have bid strongly on it. Seller's loss.
