Not coins, but the kids get some money in an angpao. Usually quite a lot when accumulated from everyone. Counting from my grandparents, parents, aunts and uncles, I get close to a million Rp each year (when I was still home for CNY, anyway). It's only the married people who give money.
The only coins around are probably chocolate coins. Usually the cheap ones.
It might be different in other places, this is just from my point of view. When your currency is aluminium and the largest denomination coin is still too small to buy anything, that's not really something worth gifting.
