A lady just came in from the local Tom Thumb (quick stop store)

She had these coins, said that a customer spent these for a pack
of cigarettes. She said she told the customer ..don't you know what
these are worth .... His response ...$4.70.

It likely was more than $4.70 to the buyer... It was probably whatever the going punishment of larceny under $100 is.... Sad.

I had a friend that worked at a casino during the recession and he'd on a weekly basis get 5-10 Morgan's being cashed in for $1 poker chips.

Wow...I don't smoke and had no idea those things cost $4.70.

You can't fix or help stupid. Even if you are not a coin collector and stole the coins you should have more sense to know that if you took these to the local pawn shop you would be able to buy 20 or more packs.

I do not immediately assume it was a thief. They could have inherited them and just did not understand the real value. Although it could still be a thief.

I guess I just think differently than most...Even if I inherited these coins and I was not interested in coins at all I would have to say "wow...these are different... I have never seen one of these before". Use Google, ebay, or a local pawn shop and 2-3 minutes later you would realize you have something worth more than the face value of $1.

But we are not most people. Most people just see money at face value. They do not care it is different, especially in the face of desperation or addiction.

That was an expensive pack of smokes, regardless of how he got the coins. If in doubt, I go with stupid rather than larcenous.

The lady did sell them to the shop, and they were put into
the silver buckets.

I did buy $100 worth of 90% today. Three silver dollars
and some silver dimes and quarters.

Not sure if I ended up with any of these.

Cascade, I am not sure where they got the name .. but that
does make since.

The Tom Thumb stores are all over, in this area,
At least five or six in this small town.

They are like 7-11's that they have in the northern states

Pretty sure pawn shops have to take down all your info, though, and enter stuff they buy into a database. So if those come up as stolen, they can be traced back to who sold them to the pawn shop.

I don't smoke either.
I did't realise that cigarettes are as expensive as this, with a pack costing $51.30, in actual silver value.

I would love to buy a pack of cigarettes for $4.70. Here in NY they run $10-$12 a pack at gas stations. If you can make it to one of the reservations you can get them for $4-$5 a pack. If you head to NY city they are roughly $15-$17 a pack at stores. GR58 must reside in one of the southern states to have prices under $5 a pack.
