Hi all, as some of you saw, I purchased a Mexico type album and noticed a couple of the really nice coins seemed to have a PL frostiness to them. I wanted to see if others thought the same. Any opinions on whether it is PL (still learning) and what that does to value? I have a few that look like this and they are some really nive looking coins. Thanks!

Well, its a little hard to see with the photos that you supplied, although I do agree that the devices seem to be a little frosty compared to the rest of the field. You probably know that according to Krause, there were no proof one peso coins minted in 1943. IMHO, I'd stick with calling this Unc or perhaps even BU depending on the surfaces. Not sure that anyone would pay extra for PL on this coin.

Ah gotcha. So even if it appears like a proof, if there actually aren't any proofs then it is just a well struck BU?

Hi there, this type is often found in a mint state condition.

There might be proofs (or very good proof-likes), but they need to be of very high quality (good frosted effect and mirrorlike-surfaces) and above the mint state material which is around in order to qualify as such.

For this type an MS66 is currently available at quite reasonable prices, therefore I would not bother slabbing if the coin looks like an MS63.
