I found a star note in circulation and entered it into a star note lookup website. the results came back as:

$20 2006 if04302237
Run Size
3,200,000
Total Printed
6,720,000
Other Info

Run Number: 2
Serial Number Range: 03200001 #8596; 06400000
Printed in DC in 9 2007

Run size is 3.2 million. Total printed is 6.7 million. Whats the difference between the two? Follow up question - what would a number have to be to be considered low for a star?

A run is a certain amount printed all in one month at the same time. The total number printed is how many were printed for that Federal Reserve District and series in total. Generally a low run is 640,000 or less.

I just did the math and your note is from Run #2 and serial number plate position should be D2..
Both Runs #1 & 2 are full 100,000 sheet runs.
Run #3 is a partial Run of 10,000 sheets...

Note; the serial number skip- numbering is 100,000 per plate position on all 3 Runs...

Since Run 3 is only 10,000 sheets, each COPE Plate Position skips the first 90,000 serial numbers and use the last 10,000 serial numbers per plate position..

Example:
Run #1 Plate Position A1 assigned serial numbers are 00000001 to 00100000

Run #2 Plate Position A1 assigned serial numbers are 03200001 to 03300000

Run #3 (10,000 sheet run), A1 assigned serial numbers are 06490001 to 06500000 ---(06400001 to 06490000 not used)...
