The 4 looks like scratches or well placed dings, but it is not "tripled". If it was tripled, the are inside the 4 would also show signs. For one the opening would be MUCH smaller.

You might want to take a cactus spine or a hawthorn and remove some of the crud around the 4 - it is hard to see, what you are seeing...

Awfully curved for a four. It should be straighter I think.
I'm voting it took a well placed hit.

On a circulated coin, it is pretty difficult to determine what exactly you are seeing...

domys wow very interesting. I tried to help you a bite I see what you are looking at. I can see it on my screen. I have a large screen like I said I see what you are looking at. I don't know how that would happen. it like that part of the coin moved when pressed. you know some of this could be when they are annealing the metal before striking. all you need is for one piece to be annealed hotter. it would at that moment be a slightly thicker. just a thought

Don't bother with grading, it so hard to see without a glass, what would you pay for a coin like this?

Domys and rocky, I'm curious how you figure the straight edge of the vertical bar of a "4" can become curved?
