Please don't kick too hard if this should be in a different forum section.. I have been picking interesting/unusual banknotes for a few years, typically to plug the order size for lower shipping cost or whatever other reason (like, a child liked recent Congo notes for various animals on them, etc.) and most of that was coming either from ebay or Joel Anderson's store. Not too long ago, I started to collect paper from South Pacific. As I move into higher denominations (with costs running into three digits per piece), I am trying to figure out other alternative venues for purchasing the items I am interested in. Seller reputation is the primary concern, availability/variety is second, and price is third. Any suggestions or hints would be appreciated, since I am pretty much just starting out in this field.

MoonRock, click the 'Member CCF Sales' and 'Member ebay Sales' and check them, good starting point and you'll be working CCF members also.

techwriter, suggestion definitely ticks off the credibility point, but variety is painfully low (at least w/r/t the geography I am looking for). Thanks for pointing me in this direction, however; will be checking it more often.

Good suggestion on where to start, techwriter. Always nice to keep it in the family. But when you can't find what you're looking for, I've found that ebay is the best bet for variety & availability. But you'll have to shop around for credibility and best price. Lots of the sellers are overseas as well, so that can add cost and time to shipping but I've done pretty well by grouping notes together from a single seller for combined shipping.

Most of my notes have come from dealers' junkboxes. Coins are really my main interest, but tokens medals and notes constitute a small part of my collection.

I mainly collect via online accessible dealers, but occasionally local dealers and shows.

The local shops around here are not the best for notes, so once-a-year shows are about it for in-person shopping. ebay is the place to go, as long as you keep it safe.

We don't have a ton of foreign (non-US) currency folks around here. I think there is one online dealer that also deals from here, but I have never purchased anything from him. As far as ebay, aside from the sometimes ludicrous BINs, it would seem to be an OK place for notes. Certainly seems to be doing a robust trade in them. I stopped using ebay years ago when the Paypal controversy/fiasco began. That and some of their item bans finally turned be off from giving them my business. But if it works for you, have at it!
