hi, I'm new to this forum & didn't see any prior info about Enviromint rounds when I did a search. I was given a 1995 Enviromint Boston Garden/Boston Bruins last regular season game silver round for Xmas. I can't find a thing about this coin on Google other than it's minted to 5000. 1 auction on ebay is for a similar coin that has "retirement" stamped on it, guy wants $2k for it. my guess is that the coin I own is not valued at $2k, but I'd like to know something about this coin if possible. mostly I'd like to know why I can't get info about it from a Google search? not even pictures? thanks for any help!!

There isn't much info out there on the Enviromint company which I assume is now defunct.

One Google search using the words "enviromint sports coins" showed a result that stated: "During the last 11 years, Enviromint Inc. in Mt. Prospect has produced more than 1000 commemorative sports coins." circa 1996.

The sheer number of these older privately minted rounds makes finding out about the companies that issued them difficult.

They most likely have no value above melt. As they are not coins, they have no legal tender status.

If deciding on an appropriate value make sure you look at the actual weight and (IMPORTANTLY) the percentage of silver in the round. A one ounce round of 100% silver is worth about $15 depending on the spot price. If the round is the same composition as most US silver coins (90% silver, 10% copper) then the melt value of the round is somewhat less.

Any value above the metal content is based solely on supply and demand. While some of these rounds are actually in demand most are not.

Also be aware that many of these rounds are actually silver plated rather than a silver alloy. This makes them worth mere pennies as a metal store.
