What's the explanation for the large difference in price between the 2012 and 2013 silver proof Kennedy half when the total mintages are very close, 2013 being only about 20,000 more from what I am seeing?

In the grand scheme of things, 24,277 less is not all that many. But 2012-S being the key issue (outside the SMS 1998-S), plus the sudden announcement in 2012 of the proof set production being halted may have had something to do with it.

I got my 2012 early for these very reasons and am glad I did @ 30.00!

The 2012 is a key issue, for now that is, until another date down the road comes in at less mintage which is entirely possible. I think that all those that are paying $100-200 for raw and slabbed 2012's are going to be underwater big time eventually on those. Its a chance you take when you try to predict a key of the series while the series is still being made with no end in sight.

Yes, 2012 is the key series....for now anyway. I always buy my sets when they first come out but I was busy doing other thinks in 2012 and the mint stopped sale of these sets earlier normal. I was forced to buy them on the secondary market at a huge mark up. Now I don't wait and get them as soon as they come out.
