Yes at 45, 90, and most valuable 180 degree or upset dies very rare as denomination increases. A couple 1967 dollar with the geese flying upside down sold for over 10,000.00 plus juice.

Well, based on what we have in our collection I would say they were, while not common, fairly regular occurrences from the 30's to the 70's at least. Some from early years as well of course but not as easy to find. We have over 3 dozen examples of various denominations in that date range. About 2/3rds of them found in change over the years, half a dozen TPGd w/ rotation noted and half a dozen more TPGd w/o the rotation noted. Usually worth a small premium in most cases. A few are quite valuable though such as the Diving Goose etc mentioned by @john100 above.

I'd have to say it depends on year too. I personlly have about 80 1967 quarters that have at least 15% die rotation out of 8 rolls. Or maybe I just got lucky with a couple of rolls. For all other years I may have only 1 or 2 die rotation examples, even less for modern coins.

Quote: A couple 1967 dollar with the geese flying upside down sold for over 10,000.00 plus juice. I would agree with that. A 1967 5-cent with 180 degrees sold very strongly as well. The 1982 coinage constitution dollar is also a 5-figure coin... http://www.PCGS.com/cert/28584704

Thanks , I sort of thought they might be more valuable. Think I'll recheck all my coins.

Just an added note on pennies only large rotations of 45% or more is really in demand.

Interesting note on the rotated 1967 5cent, SPP. I acquired a mint roll of 1967 quarters, for face value, shortly after they were released in 1967. I took out one coin, from the end of the roll, for my date collection and then put the roll away, unheeded for several years. About 20 years ago I was going through my deep storage coins an decided to have a quick look through that roll and found both a 90 degree rotation and a blank planchet. I am thinking I should pull it out of storage and look for more subtle errors.

A 90 degree bobcat would be cool and so would a blank planchet, some pics be nice.

There will be a learning curve on posting photos but I will do so.

Oops, my bad. I see I made an error in my first posting. It was a roll of nickels not quarters! I don't know where that came from. I will still work on the photos, though.
