I have recently found a coin when rummaging through Grandpa's junk. It appears to be a Walking Liberty (yes, I've Gooleresearched), but it has a date of... 1994? I can only see the front though, because I cannot pry it out of the container, but the coin has 1.5 inch diameter, and the case says "American Eagle" and is a corner-rounded-off square, with 2 1/4 inch sides. What is it? *** Moved by Staff to a more appropriate forum. ***

. This is not junk, it is on ounce of silver and the 1994 date usually sells for a slight premium

Same obverse design as the Walking Liberty half, so I can see how you were confused. It's silver bullion, one ounce of silver.

Thank you all! Sorry for posting in the wrong place... It looks a lot like Fuzzy317's picture. Is it an army coin or something? (Grandpa was in the army)

its not an army coin, the American Silver Eagle is a silver bullion coin/round produced by the US. It can come in bullion grade, uncirculated, proof, or reverse proof these days, with added premium at each grade. Mine is just bullion, so mine is only worth the value of 1 ounce of silver.
edit - value depends on type, grade, and quality

Quote: I checked online, and they sell for... $170! The high grade proof issues sell for $170, yours sounds like an ungraded bullion issue. These usually sell for $40-$50. Does it have reflective surfaces?

Not really, but there is green and red around the edges... How to get that off?

Need pics, I think. Is the green and red on the coin itself?

DO NOT TRY TO CLEAN IT! (Yelling intentional) The green and red may just be toning, but regardless, do not try to clean it, you will lower the value if you do.

Silver exposed to different chemicals in the air/surroundings changes color. Blue, red and green are frequent colors of toning. If the colors on your Silver Eagle are toning, it may make the coin more valuable, as many people like it. If the colors are paint, it lowers the value. Pictures will tell us a lot, and, again, DO NOT CLEAN.

OK, OK, I will not clean it... But why do people like toning?
