As usual, this change benefits only ebay in the end. The only seller these changes will benefit is the seller who markets VERY inexpensive items and can now add a gallery photos without it being cost prohibitive. For most transactions, the higher FV fees will FAR outweigh the lower listing fees. The inability to leave negative feedback on a buyer going forward is HORRIBLE! It gives buyers the ammunition to leave negative feedbacks to sellers freely, and for no good reason, knowing the no mutual negative feedback can be left. I sell on ebay for a living (not coins, other than those I'm disposing of from personal collection). I already had to abandon my 9-year old ebay account last November (massive powerseller account), due to scamming buyers and ebay's "protect only the buyer" policies. I had to start over with a new account. Now ebay is making it even easier for the scammers to get what they want.

Good grief! I have 50 paid and delivered sales that have left no FB. I hope they all dont give me a NEG now that I cant retaliate! The new philosophy is that now honest buyers that got burned are scared to leave for honest negs for fear of retaliation is bull! I have a buying only account that I use to buy from suspect sellers. I think the score is about an 87 with $300K in buys only. ebay must have lost the facts here. It is sellers that put them in Rolls Royce's. I have paid plenty of seller fees but dont remember buying something for $100 and paying ebay $112 for said item. I sell lots of bullion. What buyer wants to pay a big premium over melt? Most want to steal it for under current replacement. I am looking for new online selling venues.

The feedback changes are very strategic on the part of ebay. One of the new "benefits" ebay is offering is reduced FV fees to highly regarded powersellers. (Mind you, the discount is 5%-15%, which is less than the new increase in rates). ebay doesn't want to have to pay out on this discount, so ebay has devised a plan to minimize such payouts. It's the new "Sellers Can't Leave Negative Feedback" policy. ebay KNOWS that most sellers will now be receiving a lot more negative feedbacks than they have in the past and it won't take long before even the best of sellers won't qualify for the special powerseller discount. Most buyers don't realize this, but it's very difficult for powersellers (even the good ones) to not have angry customers. Customers get bent out of shape VERY easily and expect the world from the sellers. I could write a novel about all of the unreasonable buyers I've dealt with over the years. The ONLY thing that even remotely protects the seller is the feedback process, which scares most unreasonable customers into not leaving any feedback at all. That last little bit of seller protection has now been removed.

Well I am a small time seller on ebay and so far I have not had any problems with people that have bought from me. However the new feed back rules are very anti-seller and will embolden the scam buyers. I am not happy at all with the increase in FV's. When you add the FV and Paypal fees together ebay is taking approximately 12.75 % off of my bottom line. It is becoming increasingly difficult for me to sell on ebay. I believe that it is time to start looking for other online avenues for selling my coins. These new hikes in seller fees makes me that much more thankful for the ability to sell on this forum.

This is crap:
"Negative and neutral Feedback left by the buyer will be removed for transactions in which a buyer doesn't respond to the Unpaid Item (UPI) or if the member is suspended."
This is crap too:
"Buyers will only be able to receive positive Feedback."

ebay needs competition to keep it in check. God help me if this happens in Australia. It will push a lot of sellers out of the market or cause higher prices on the buyer. Since ebay does not give a stuff about sellers (who incidently make ebay rich) maybe it is time for buyers to make a stand. I have said it before and I will say it again...I hate ebay!!

Here's a new spin: What's to stop competing sellers from starting new ID's, purchasing from their compeition, and leaving a negataive? As things stand now, the fees (and percentage of my profit) that go to ebay are outrageous. I use gallery with every listing, so I'll save .35 per auction and always start at .99 which will save me another nickel. That's .40 off my listing fees. Since many of our items now are higher priced, I see the new final fees as a problem. Even with the powerseller discount, the new feedback system will eliminate the discount in no time. There will be no checks to keep buyers and sellers honest and the feedback system will truly become a joke and completely non-representative of actual transaction experiences. I am working on putting together the coincommunity.biz site and will be doing research this week. On a positive note, we will be listing our nicer items here on the forum in the B/S/T section at reasonable prices prior to listing them on ebay. I plan to run sales here from Friday-Wednesday and then list anything that doesn't sell by then on ebay on Thursday. Look for some nice coins starting tomorrow!

I am glad for the changes for only one reason, and I am trying mighty hard to keep myself from doing it. There is a seller who screwed me really badly last year on a coin purchase. Not simply dishonestly or illegally but maliciously and deviously. I am sorely, sorely tempted to buy coins from him AND pay for them and leave him as many negatives as I possibly can afford, or at least as much as I would have spent in legal fees trying to keep him from treating others as I was treated. One of the others factors prompting me to do this is that ebay did absolutely nothing about him. Will I? I just don't know if I can force myself to sink to his level, but I am sorely, sorely tempted.

I agree that the system is strongly in favor of the buyers on E-bay.

The 5 and 15% discount off Final value fees requires very high detailed seller ratings of 4.6 or 4.8, respectively, if I remember right. I have 79 DSRs, am honest, have low shipping and two of my DSRs are below 4.6. I suspect that ebay crunched the numbers on DSRs and probably found hardly anybody would qualify for the FVF discount. Everyone hates paying for shipping and even if it is reasonable, they will give you a 4 out of 5. Yet they bought the item knowing the shipping charge, so there should be no complaint. I think the 4.6 and 4.8 are too high and few people will be able to get the discount. I do like the idea mentioned by Bobby that sellers should ahve ability to block buyers with low % or recent low feedback. In my opinion, these changes are to benefit ebay and its shareholders. As some of you know, their stock has been hammered due to poor earnings ratings/not meeting shareholder expectations. They wouldn't make all these changes to "satisfy customers", though this is good public relations to say so. They are making the changes to satisfy shareholders, who want to see more profits out of this company. That's the reality of running a business.

The solution is simple, lets just not leave feedback. I mean why should we if we disagree with the new policies?

How exactly is that a solution? The problem is unreasonable buyers and unscrupulous competitors leaving bad feedback, knowing that the seller can no longer reciprocate.

bobby said: quote: Sorry but you're wrong. What's to stop you from buying something with 100 negatives on your record? Answer: Absolutely nothing.
My Feedback looks like this: Feedback Score: 64 Positive Feedback: 100% Members who left a positive: 64 Members who left a negative: 0 All positive Feedback: 84 I know you & others advise to have 2 different IDs, 1 for buying & 1 for selling, but I don't. I don't sell that much & by the time I read your advice, it was "too late." I hated to lose ALL my feedback I've built up over the years & start over with a new seller ID, hence looking like I never sold anything on ebay & was a first time seller. One neg from a nasty seller would put me at 98.4%; two or three would really look bad. I've had sellers before that I wanted to neg but didn't, for fear of retaliation. I'm ready now to neg a seller I purchased from, who I've emailed 5 times because he hasn't sent me the item I won & paid for immediately, after SIX FULL WEEKS & no delivery. (He just got around to sending it 3 days ago!) But I know he'll neg me if I neg him - so as a buyer, I'm stuck. With the new system, I wouldn't be. I'm just holding on & waiting & waiting & waiting for my item to arrive.
