Gatewest must be desperate to get rid of inventory as some of the coins are 40% off issue price. Like this Star Charts coin at $64.95, issue $104.95, 48 in stock. I bet Gatewest is not happy to be stuck with so much inventory. I hope they let the Mint know of the drop in demand. http://store.gatewestcoin.com/cgi/v...15v&t=287905Speaking of deep discounts, you can get the Looney Tune 4 coin set with watch for $230. issue price was $419. Almost 1/2 price. I pity those that bought the Looney Tune at issue price. http://store.gatewestcoin.com/cgi/v...15v&t=589619

Thanks justsilver! Much appreciated. Quote: Speaking of deep discounts, you can get the Looney Tune 4 coin set with watch for $230. issue price was $419. Almost 1/2 price. I pity those that bought the Looney Tune at issue price. Thanks for your pity, MoneyPenny. That's why I bought another set at the deep discount. They're selling for much higher on ebay, so will try to recoup some of my loss on the first set. I will never buy anything from RCM at issue price again. However, the 2oz Moonlight Fireflies coin seems to be holding its value, as well as the Maple Leaf shaped coin. I wonder if it's just a matter of time for these coins, too? My thoughts are that if they haven't dropped in price by now they could hold their value.

The RCM doesn't seem to listen to their collectors with their endless surveys, hopefully they will listen to their larger dealers, just too many issues.

I'm a Platinum Prestige member (yes... I spent waaaaaay too much money at the RCM in the past), and I'm honestly done with purchasing NCLT direct from the RCM. It just doesn't make sense to buy direct on 95% of issues, when you can find them in the open-market for 25%, 30%, 40%, 50% or 60% off-retail. I think the RCM marketing system is broken - they need to choose between direct distribution or dealer distribution... only then will supply be more accurately matched to "actual" demand. Despite some great deals in the dealer / secondary market right now, every time I hear about another "SALE", I want to scream and !

As we can see, the items that discounted, 99% of them - these are exactly the coins, that we wouldn't buy in any case - nor for $100 neither for $50 - not interesting, bad design..etc.
Collectors could be interested in Proof Silver sets for CAD 137 instead of CAD 229.
Back in 2012 I wanted this set, and was ready to get it even for 200, but gave up. Now again and again want to fill purchase form, but something holds me.......just do not know - do I really need this set.
And in anyway - thanks a lot, Justsilver for the link.
HAPPY NEW YEAR TO ALL CCF MEMBERS!

You are welcome, all. It is sad to see RCM's products tanked because I am holding many of them. But I learned my lesson now. lol.

I can't say for sure, but just a guess that Gatewest still isn't loosing money on any of these specials. I would guess, that there is still 10% over their costs. Which of course tells us how ridiculous the 'list price' is over a reasonable mark up for the MC and public in general. We all (collectively) created this obscene overcharge by continuing to purchase at list prices, even when they keep going up, but the value goes down.

It's super easy to negatively "generalize" when we see deep-discount sales, but you are 100% correct - most sales are for items nobody wants. I also owe the dealer network an apology... my last post sounded as though I was blaming "them" for the RCM's issues. This is not the case at all. The RCM is driving sales, marketing, and production strategy - not the dealer network. If anything, the dealer network is also feeling the sting of what is happening with the RCM's present strategy (thus, the discounts). Novel idea: what if the RCM posted allocations for each release? This would allow everyone to get a true feel for demand. Example: Mint releases new GITD dinosaur coin (insert eye roll). With this release, they state that 20% is allocated to RCM sales, and 80% is allocated to the dealer market. As such, if the RCM site posts a "sell-out", we as informed consumers know that their 20% allocation is a drop-in-the bucket, and this "sell-out" isn't indicative of total market demand. Example 2: Mint releases a new maple leaf shaped coin. With this release, they allocate 75% to RCM sales (stating this on their promo literature), and in one day, 80% of this allocation is sold. We would know this might be a "hot" coin... one to follow. Thoughts? Maybe I am thinking too generalized?

Some dealers (i.e. Bromberg) have a great deal of influence (probably too much) on the direction the Mint has taken. Besides 'advising' them they are commissioning more and more coins and have to take some of the blame for what is happening to numismatics. I seriously doubt CC&C is hurting at all.

Then again... maybe the above information should be something that the RCM rep network passes on to its "good" customers. In MC communications, this material could be included (another benefit of the MC program - inside information). That being said, has the RCM shut down the rep program, or is my rep simply on an "extended holiday"? No reply, out-of-office response, sign of life, etc. from my rep for a couple of weeks, despite attempts to contact. If the rep vacation allowances are this great at the RCM, please show me where to submit my resume!
