How is the chatter on the obverse? Is the image making a big deal out of light marks in the luster or are they real marks on the coin? Reverse is phenomenal! I'll say it got a 64.

Obv marks are slightly enhanced in image, coin has mirror-like surfaces.

MS65PL and MS66PL would not surprise me.

MS64, no visible cameo contrast between portrait/eagle and fields, so not PL/DMPL, but I love the peripheral toning! I can't give her a MS65 because there is a lot of chatter even though there are no major hits or distractions; the reverse also has a couple of minor milk spots. 1879-1880-1881S are some of the most beautiful and well struck Morgans and this one is no exception. Great coin and a worthy addition to any collection.

Yeah, these are not PL. Even if they "looked" PL, there's a specific guideline they use to get this grade. You can use this to grade it: http://www.coingrading.com/plcoins1.htmlSlider23, these aren't even close to 66. 66 Morgans are virtually devoid of any contact marks, especially on key areas like the cheek. 66s are amazing, and you'll know when you see one. Differences between a 64 and a 65 may be minor, but not between a 64 and 66. I would say this is a 64. The luster looks good, and that *may* bring it to a 64+ or 65, but the bag/contact marks would make me lean towards 64.

Cameo92, Thanks for the grading tips on PL and DMPL coins. Photos play a major part in showing details on a PL or DMPL coin, and these coins can be hard to photograph if you do not have the correct set up. On my comments about the grade, I took a flyer on PL based on the OP's comments that the coin had mirror like surface and the marks were enhanced by the photos. The mirror surface on the PL coins show almost every mark in the field or frosty areas. All MS66PL coins are not amazing as some are a little better than MS65. Below is a MS66PL from my collection that does have some rub marks on the frosty check, and I would call it a nice coin but not amazing.

I see PL, but definitely not a 66. This is where "buy a coin for the coin, not the slab" or something along that line comes into place. Contact marks next to her face brings it down to a 64PL to me.

I missed big time on the OP coin, but grading from photos is fun and can not make up seeing the coin in hand.
