When I began collecting coins about 40 years ago, the "Big Three" rarities were commonly regarded as the 1804 dollar, the 1913 Liberty nickel, and the 1894-S Barber dime. As many people did, I fantasized about finding them and owning them one day. If you had to choose ONE of these three to own, which one would it be and why?

I'd go with the Barber. Not sure why I really like them but I do really like them...

I'd have to give up the value and go with the 1804 $1 just because of age and size and class of the coin - history as well .... . Otherwise if going for the money, give me 1913 Nickel so long as I can pick which 1913 I get!

I'd go with the 1913 Liberty. Simply because I'd use the auction proceeds from it to buy a wonderful sampling of the many types of coins I love. Having 100 super nice coins of lesser value would still appeal to me more than a single monster.

I would go with the 1804 dollar. As a US coin collector, I like to collect legitimately minted coins, not rarities created by mint thefts.

I would also go with the 1804 dollar, with it's higher melt value

I'll take the 1913 liberty head nickel. I love V-nickels.

I'd go for the Barber. The 1804 dollar and the 1913 nickel are so shrouded in mystery, it's hard to think of them as legitimate coins. Seeing that mintage of 24 staring at me from the Red Book makes the Barber very human and attainable to me.

The 1804 dollar because I could sell it and buy stuff I actually want. It would be nice to have it for a day, though.

I would go for the 1913 Liberty nickel. Interestingly, a collector from my hometown a long time ago owned all 3 of those coins at one time.

As a collector of early U.S. coins I'd like the 1804 Dollar!

Quote: The 1804 dollar was far from legitimately minted. I think all three of these coins have issue with being legitimately minted, but they are still highly desired coins. I change my mind about every minute, when thinking about which of these three I would choose. I feel I would choose the 1804 dollar ... but really leaning toward the 1894 S dime.

Out of those three coins, I like the design of the 1804 dollar the best, so that would be my choice.
