I am planning a visit to Canada and North Eastern USA later this year with my family and of course as an keen collector, would like to visit a coin shop or two if possible.
Are there any websites that would list coin shops in a particular area or State, or would it be best to ask on here for recommendations?
Coming from the UK, where coin shops are pretty non existent, all advice will be greatly appreciated. Edited by proofreader 01/03/2016 1:49 pm

The only two places where I would think you would get treated fairly is Colony Coin in Newton, MA and Kenmore collectibles in Kenmore Square Boston, MA. Colony is usually only open one to two days a week their phone: (617) 244-1972 Kenmore has more regular hours and their phone: 617) 482-5705. I have bought from both of them and never felt screwed. They have totally different personalities but they both should treat you fairly.

Hello Proofreader. Not sure where in Canada you are visiting, but when you get here, Google "Coin Dealers and Supplies Canada" It will give you names and addresses of over 200 Dealers from coast to coast in Canada. Enjoy your trip here and let us know how you made out "Coin wise" when you return.

there are a lot of coin shops in the US. There are at least 3 within a 20 miles radius to me. If you don't mind, what cities and states are you visiting?

Well the plan at the moment is to fly into Toronto then drive to Atlantic City and then up the coast to Cape Cod / Boston and back up to Canada.

i'd try to make it to a coin show so you can get to see 50 - 100 different coin shops representing. maybe someone here knows a coin show up there around the time you'll be here.

Feel free to ask for recommendations or experiences here! If nobody knows of a store then you can try looking at reviews on third customer review sites like yelp.

I am with Elimist. If you get up to Maine I can help you out too. Are you going from Toronto to Buffalo or are you driving east across Canada than down into New England? If you are going the latter I will do everything I can to make your visit more memorable. I use to work in a local library/art gallery and did a lot of tourist stuff. You have two great little stores in Houlton, Maine that have a great selection of Maine exonumia. https://www.facebook.com/ShiretownCoinshttp://houltonstampandcoin.com/Either way if you are driving back up to Canada you will probably hit Carleton County NB. If you have 40 minutes to spare you could see the world's longest covered bridge, oldest library in Canada, McCain's French Frye plant, SABIAN and the world's largest ax. I could get ya some local tokens to commemorate. Hey Elimist, do you ever hit up the Woodstock shows? Bangor is a wee bit of a drive but we get people from Presque Isle, Houlton and Mars Hill quite a bit.

I use google maps to find coin shops when I travel. The reviews are really helpful to find the best ones in any given area. Obviously, I'd prefer reviews of users here if you're going to be in their wheelhouse in your travels.

One more place that has regular hours in Massachusetts is Heritage Coins and collectibles. They just opened on Dec 15, 2014 so they are wanting your business. I just bought a rather nice 1909s Lincoln Cent from them. They have regular hours and will give you a fair price. Their Phone: 508-657-0902. They are located in Bellingham, Massachusetts. They have a really nice little store and are great to work with. You can call them for directions.I think I am allowed to post a link to their website but I'll just give you the actual name and you should be able to find it on the web. Heritage Coins and Collectibles 15 N.Main St Unit c-5 Bellingham ,MA 02019 Hope you have fun on our side of the pond!

Another big Canadian Dealer in Kitchener ont is Colonial Acres, they frequently have great discounts on coins. I would checkout the websites for both Canadian Coin & Currency and Colonial Acres they are the 2 biggest coin dealers in Canada. I hope you have fun on your trip.

A few of coin shops that I know off the top of my head are Northshore Numismatics in Wakefield, MA; Lexington Coin in Lexington, MA; Kappy's Coins in Norwood, MA; Collvest in Medford, MA; and there are a few small shops on Bromfield st in Boston. There are a couple of regular coin shows in MA and NH which you may be able to attend. For more information you can go to http://www.ebwpromotions.com/ and http://www.baystatecoinshow.com/.
