AU-58, slightest wear; Dave, does that look like a slightly earlier die stage of 23C to you?

Quote: does that look like a slightly earlier die stage of 23C I believe you are correct. Hopefully messydesk sees this and confirms the die stage.

Both at AU58. New Orleans dollars are typically weaker strikes this can be seen right above the ear. The eagle breast and talons. Id say yours are avg+ for strike.

I agree slider, AU-58. Nicer than most I see.

Just curious, no one has mentioned the die crack on the reverse at the top of United States of. Is the length of this crack normal?

Sort of, the die crack is a pup for VAM23C http://www.vamworld.com/1900-O+VAM-23C The crack between E S without the die chip on the S could exclude this coin from VAM23C designation, I think. My guess is it would be a VAM23B if die polish lines are present or just VAM23 LDS if not.

I have more questions, should I post under another topic?

Great coin, nice AU-58. Massive die crack makes this one look like the reverse die was about ready to come apart when this one was struck. I'm not seeing the polish lies so I'd agree with the VAM23.

I moved this from Grading to VAM for more opinions on its variety.
