I just purchased an item tonight on ebay. I had ebay bucks so I figured that I should just ahead and use them. So I applied them to my $139.41 purchase. $40.43 in ebay bucks should bring that total down to $98.98 . Here is where the fun part kicks in. Like always I check my PayPal balance after a purchase just to make sure everything went through correctly. Well this time it didn't. Instead of being charged $98.98, I was charged (according to my PayPal summary page) the full amount of $139.41 as if my ebay bucks hadn't been applied. Once I noticed this error I contacted ebay to see if they could resolve the problem. Of course not, it's not their fault. So I get transferred over to PayPal and put on hold for an eternity. Eventually the PayPal representative confirmed that I was indeed charged the full $139.41 and that I would have to talk to ebay about the ebay bucks due to the fact they have no control over that. I get transferred over to ebay once again. I finally reach a representative and once again, she confirms that my ebay bucks were successfully applied through ebay and that my total amount should be $98.98 after the discount. She tells me I will have to contact PayPal because it is out of their responsibility because everything on ebay's side looks fine. At this point I've been on the phone for at least an hour, so I gave up and came here to rant and see if anyone else has had this problem. So what on Earth happened to my $40.43 worth of ebay bucks? I call ebay and they say it's PayPal's fault and then I call PayPal and tell me that it's ebay's fault and they can't do anything. Where do I go now? Anyone I can talk to? Anyone else ever have this issue? I would really like to have my $40.43 discount added or credited to my account. It's still a rather decent amount of money that I'd like to be able to use.

Mine is kind of messed up to from a purchase tonight.

I had $11.84 in ebay bucks and bought a coin set for $11.78 plus $2.99 shipping.

When I click on the recap:
$11.84
$2.93 XXXX Bank x-(last 4 numbers)

$12.78
Shipping$1.99
Tax$0.00
Purchase total$14.77
Fee$0.00
Total$14.77

but it looks at the top that $14.77 is going to be taken out.

So, I figured I would look online tomorrow and see if they debit the $2.93 it says in one spot....or the $14.77 it says at the top.

Sometimes wires get crossed and it takes a few hours to sort out. Check again today on both your ebay Bucks and your Paypal balance and if there's still a problem you'll have to call, or e-mail, again. At the very least you should have the ebay Bucks to use on a future purchase.

Mine is kind of confusing also.
I don't care for the interface of the paypal site.
In the details section it shows an ebay bucks purchase but in the totals section it shows -xxxx amount.
However, it does not seem like my account full balance is going down any.
So it looks in one place like they are taking it from me and in another like they are using ebay bucks.
But I am comforted by the "total" in my account.
It remained unchanged as a slight positive amount even after the two deductions they show (they would have taken it below zero had the ebay bucks not actually shown up).
So it seems to be working-- but it just does not look like it is.

They could really improve their interface by having a spreadsheet type balance running total on the right of the transactions. So you could see the balance unchanged from before and after the transaction.

Every one has gone to tablet type graphics and views and there is a lot of functionality taken away from the viewing that way. It is better in the "classic" view but still not great.

Nevermind. Expand the PayPal transaction. You will see in the upper left-hand corner

$98.98 PayPal Balance
$40.43

I'm guessing the entire purchase price is recorded while the ebay Bucks are recorded as credits to that purchase.
Rest in Peace

You must, of course, actually apply the ebay bucks when you make a purchase. I've missed doing that a couple of times just because I was excited about winning something yummy.

I am not saying you forgot, as the 'transaction' is showing as paid.

I know for the many times I've used my ebay bucks it always takes a while for it to balance out. As suggested, give it a day to float straight.

Well now we know why they split... to deny culpability and so each can refer you to the other

Could it be the problem they had issuing the ebay bucks? I received my ebay bucks on Jan 3rd, with a code and all but no amount on the certificate.
On Jan4th I got an apology message from ebay stating here is your ebay bucks. This had the same code number but the amount was now showing. If I had used it right away before getting the corrected one I wonder if that would have caused the same problem you had? Just a thought.

did they have a glitch when they issued all of them on the 3rd and now they are fixed?
From ebay:
Our apologies, please find your original ebay Bucks voucher amount here.

If eBay/PayPal can't determine who's problem it is call ebay and request a 3 way call between you/eBay/PayPal. This will make it harder for one to blame the other and should get the problem resolved. When customer service representatives start giving me the run around I demand they put a supervisor on the line.

Yeah it freaked me out the first time. What happens I find is that it adds the ebucks voucher to your account and then takes the full ebay amount out. Just check to see if the right amount was taken out of your account after that transaction. The key if it goes right is you will see the ebay bucks being added to your account first.

I think they do it so that it's a completely normal transaction on the sellers side for your privacy and if you return a item for a refund. It could be a privacy concern if they knew how much ebucks you used and earned.

That's exactly right, and I was going to say that. Paypal pays the seller the full amount, so as far as Paypal is concerned the transaction is correct. The buyer is only actually charged the difference. If buyer checks the credit card transaction, they would only see the balance less the ebay bucks charged to their account.

I've used ebay bucks before and I haven't had a problem. It will always show on my PayPal statement that the full amount was taken out, but for my balance, it usually corrects the difference and I'm not charged the full amount. I went back and looked on ebay and it appears that my ebay bucks were never actually used? Even though I applied it to my purchase at checkout and the "Order Details" page said I did. On the the ebay bucks page, it's still telling me that I have $40.43 worth to use on a purchase and that it expires the first of February. I'll have to buy some cheapo coin supplies or something and test it out.
