Saw this on ebay 221988024110
It's a 2007 "non mule" petro Canada Alpine Skiing quarter.
Has anyone else ever seen one? I thought they were all dated 2008 ( which is supposed to be a mule)
Does that technically make it a mule of a mule? Hehe.

There were a total of 22,400,000 of the 2007 alpine skiing minted of which 50,000 were the 2008 mule.

But as far as I've seen, all the ones in the petro Canada packs with the color on it, have been 2008. This is the first 2007 in the petro Canada pack I've seen.

Just looking at it, it looks heat sealed closed, and the coin itsself is encapsulated in hard plastic sandwiched between layers of cardboard... I don't own any so I can't check, I'm only going by what I see, if that's the case, I doubt anyone could give it the old switcheroo and still have it look legitimate.

I am almost sure these are not encapsulated, just a vacuum seal.

I had one once and I'm pretty sure they're not vacuum sealed but can easily be opened and re sealed.

Here are some pictures of the packaging for the 2008 Mule
Coin in Petro-Canada Package. The top is sealed above
the rack hole. There is another seal, heat seal below at
the top of the card. There is also a magnifier plastic
disc over top of the coin to help see it on the reverse
side. Not sure you could slip another coin into this
package without it being noticed. They did catch the
error after a while so there could be non mule coins in
these packs.

Some more info on 2010 Olympic Mules here.

I've seen a 2007 coloured one on ebay. They do exist and are rare.

I've been on the lookout for one.

One went for like $100 a few months ago on ebay

Near the end of the Petro Canada ease it was possible to buy the 2007 in the packaging directly from the mint, don't know how many but some were sold.

Now I know why I keep running into these Olympic quarters everywhere, over 22 million. Here I thought it was around 5 million. Are these packaged ones a higher quality or just business strikes.
