I've had the experience once and only once; will not bid or buy again where that option is offered.

It's mostly a cash grab. You're basically paying to have the item shipped twice (US to US, then US to Canada), plus a handling fee in between for the company that does the in between.
Although it does give a prospective buyer the ability to buy from US based sellers who wouldn't go through the hassle of shipping to Canada themselves.

Lately I've become an avid user of ebay's sort function "price+shipping - lowest first" so I need not become enthused about an item, only to notice it has an outrageous cost of Glabal shipping and export fees attached. That said, I did buy an item and it arrived sooner than I expected, received numerous auto shipping updates and trackable shipping was all good. I agree it's only the total cost that's important but for auction items as an example, Canadians are already at a pricing disadvantage given present exchange rates. Therefore most of my recent buys have been from within Canada.

Ace_ftw I to live like 5 mins from the States and fined it alot easier to have it just shipped there. You still have to declare it, but 90% of the time there's no duty to be payed. Tried telling that to one seller and I'm pretty sure they thought I was crazy.

Most times for me at least I've just asked to get around the program as the prices are horrid for almost anything especially numismatic. Really need a separate program for Canada or nothing at all.

My concern is does our government even see any of these so called taxes collected. How would a person find out. Apparently its supposed to be great for very heavy items and is not meant for light stuff. I used to read the seller forum on ebay, there was nothing but complaints from both countries about the program. I haven't bought from ebay since Nov.2014. Back then I avoided listings with this program, missed some fantastic coins. The other thing, even though you pay import fees upfront, theoretically you can be charged again once in Canada. Its in the fine print. Plus would you get the fees back on a return item, don't know the answer.

Awful program . Especially when it comes to coins and other collectibles that are free of tariffs and only subject to GST HST . One of our customers bought a monster box of silver from a global program seller. What a nightmare for him! If you are lucky enough to live in a border town , rent a USPS post office box. When you come back across the border unless you are commercial , you will usually pay nothing on a small amount of coins or related if you tell the truth Not worth their time.or effort to collect small amounts of GST or HST.

I avoid any auction using the program, in fact with the current exchange rate I don't make many US purchases at the moment. I especially try to avoid Canadian sellers selling in US Dollars

I collect other stuff as well, and the program is actually seen as a good thing for buyers in the UK and EU who purchase from US sellers. For Canadian buyers it sucks, for all of the reasons stated above. It's slower, more expensive, and charges fees that "may be charged" upon import, not that ebay ever refunds the charges if the government fails to collect them or if the fees never existed. I've asked sellers if they will take payment from PayPal outside of ebay so they are protected, but can charge actual shipping, and some have done it. Others decline, so I stay away from those. Many never realize the shipping costs ebay is setting as a default for them.

I see UK ebay is using this system. When is it Canada's turn. Would you ship international, if you could use the GSP/ Just curious what Canadian sellers would say.

I suspect ebay's GSP program may be illegal under Canadian law... This is based on several trips I personally made to the Canada Border Services Agency and discussions I've had with several agents.

And that is why we use the USPS for all of our US and international shipments. Living near the US border sure does help except for cross border shopping these days. Even gas is cheaper in the Fraser valley now if you do all the math right. The amount of US licence plates at Canadian stores is increasing!

My first and only experience with the GSP turned out ok. I was not charged any additional taxes or fees. Only used it because no other dealer had it for the price I wanted.
Probably would not use it again because it added $25 to the final price. Plus it took longer than I would have like. 16 days from the day purchase to delivery; it had go to another city in eastern US when the seller was in California.

As a seller I like it but I usually ship things over a pound and I would never ever at this point ship overseas without it. I sold a lot of toys to Australia and The UK this way. I still make the same amount that I wanted on fixed price items. Just international customers that I wouldn't have had before it have a chance if they want a rare item.

I had a horrible experience with the GSP. I bought something from someone in the states a collectable only person who had one.The shipping and fees changed from page to page from when I searched for it to enter the item page to check out. They charge way to much the import fees I never would have got hit for that I know it and he double boxed it cause it was a collectable in a box unopened when it went to the sorting facility they opened it to check it and destroyed the inner box which was a big part of its value. I lost my mind when I say this called ebay they said it's not there problem call the GSP I called them told them eventually after I got somebody on the phone they said sorry not or problem call ebay. This went back and forth for awhile till I said f this and I called PayPal within 10mins I got my money back from eBay/GSP and the one on the phone from PayPal told me it wasn't the first complaint they had against them I took pictures figured I'd have to send a bunch of proof, just explained the situation they said no here you go.
