I have a 50 Cents 17 FEb 1776 continental currency (printing C). Bought it from someone that is reputable, and it looks and feels right to include blue thread in paper.

But there is no signature or serial number. I was thinking it was the counterfeit detector, but paper is wrong color. Any one have any thoughts on this?

Thanks

A little hard viewing. The serial number...

I used to collect early paper in the 80's and sold everything in the late 90's to focus on errors...

That being said, I believe your note is genuine, but shows quite a bit of wear..
I found it common to find worn signatures on low graded Currency...

I have a Sept. 26th, 1778 $8 continental (my only one) which I got just because I wanted a continental. It's much more worn than yours (not damaged though), yet one signature is still bold and the SN and other signature are at least visible (illegible, though).

I think the note is legit. The quality of ink used on early currency varied and many notes have heavily faded signatures and there are notes like yours where the signatures have faded away completely over time. The paper looks correct in my opinion.
