Why are these selling so much higher than face value?

How much did they cost in 1999?

What is the point of making a bag for the whole lot of 25 coins?

Makes no sense.

I'm sure there are plenty of pristine MS-70's in those bags after banging around in there for 16-17 years.

Or maybe a Cheerios dollar.

Is there a certain type that people search for in un-circulated condition perhaps?

Can you send the whole bag to NGC to get graded?

I think it's just the novelty of the thinng. These coins were never meant for circulation and putting 25 of them in a "mint bag" is just a gimmick. Collector's item. If you're into small dollars, you need at least one of these.

1999 SBAs were never meant for circulation? Huh?

Pretty sure they were intended to bridge the gap until enough Sacs could be minted.

Both P and D mint mark Susan B. Anthony dollars are also available in bags of 25 for $35.50 and bags of 1,000 for $1,095 while quantities last. There are no household limits for the SBA Uncirculated Set or SBA bags.

$35.50 + $3.95 shipping and handling

Grand total = $39.45

That is correct, the 1999-P and 1999-D were most certainly meant for circulation to fill demand before the Sacagawea would be released the next year.

The 1999 SBA's were made for circulation. In 1999 the drawdown rate for the SBA's reached the point where the Treasury was going to run out before the end of the year. Under the law the Sac dollar could not be issued until 2000. So they had to strike 1999 SBA's to fill the gap. They only needed about 3 or 4 months worth of drawdown or about 20 million coins, but they struck about 30 million to be on the safe side.
