Hi--since I don't have a book yet on Australian coins, I thought someone here might be able to help me with the key dates. I know of the 1925 and 1930 pennies--are there any other coins to watch for? I'll be at a coin show tomorrow, and it would be very useful info--thank you!

Ok, can give you a start,
1/2d 1915H
1/2d 1918
1/2d 1923
1/2d 1939 roo reverse in higher grade
1d 1930, 1925, 1946, then there is also 1933/2 overdate.
Then there are the varieties, 1920 1d dot above bottom scroll with the London obverse, 1931 1d Indian obverse, 1931 1d Indian obverse with the dropped 1,
3d
1915, 1922/21 overdate,1912,1923,1942M,1947
6d
1918,1922,1924,1939,1952,1953
1 shilling,
1915,1915H,1921*,1933,1911,1912,1914,1924,1939,1940
1 florin,
1914H,1915,1932,1911,1912,1933,1939
Have a look at some of the copper proofs, underratted in my opinion.
Some of the coins listed are harder to obtain in the higher grades.
The list provided comes from Aust. Coins and Banknotes 14th edition, with a couple of the 1d varieties thrown in.
Have fun at the show.

Hello Gnome, Kurt,
Kurt didn't know you were also into the Australian cents, you are doing very well with the Indian Head cents so far. Gnome my friend, not to sound too stupid here, but I just can't seem to get a hold on this grading thing. We here have numerous pictorial grading books which makes it a little easier to understand the individual grades. I wonder if it would be possible for one of our learned Australian friends to possibly post some pics of Pennies in the different grades. I know it would sure be a help to me, I have searched the Internet, but so far have come up empty handed.

Later,

See if this helps, Dave.
Some additional info, may help.
Let me know how you go, there is another great link I have to track down.
One more thought, Dave, start a thread with some of the coins you need graded. May help.

Hi Dave,
I recently read of Australian die varieties, which piqued my interest immediately
This weekend, I picked up two 1918 pennies, a 1915, and a 1920 with the lower dot. Then also a 1926 and a 1916-M florin. I'm still looking for that 1933/32 1d...

Hello Kurt,
They are really great coins, just think if our Indian Head and Flying Eagles cents were that size, you'd be able to see the varieties from a foot away. I just bought a nice coin on one of my Internet club auctions, it is a 1922 with a die crack through the top of COMMONWEALTH OF, and a lamination on the Obverse. I'll post some pics when I get it, hope to learn enough to pic up some nice one at our local clubs three day show. Gnome and Newcastle coins have helped me immensely.
Got to go for now,

Dave, sounds like you found an interesting '22!
At last weekend's show, I picked up a 1920 penny with a crack through GEORGIUS:
