Are these rare pennies? I got these in change a few years ago and have held on to them. I have taken the best pictures that I can. They are odd, and I am thinking something went wrong at the mint. Input is appreciated. I tried to upload the image but it will not let me saying the size is to big and I do not know how to make it smaller. I will be glad to email the pics to anyone that will provide an email address. Sorry

I was going to send you my contact information, but you didn't put your email address in your profile. It's not desirable to post it directly here due to spam fishers.

Most programs that you use to view your photos also allow you to resize them. Most digital cameras will even allow you to resize the photos right on the camera.
Another option is to just change the resolution on your camera before you take your photo. If you take the photo in email mode or at 1 megapixel, you'll get a very small file size. The downside risk to doing it this way is that your photo won't have the same clarity if you try to enlarge the details on it.

I'm a newby at this but I'm going to take a stab at it--this is all a learning process that never ends--?indented second strike-worth some more than the coin--the book says $7-10 but not sure. One of the more experienced forum members will add their Two Cents worth here. Hang on to it is my advice! Gussyboy

1st one- off center, no date worth a couple bucks 2nd one- 1st strike centered with date, off center second strike and gussyboy's value estimate is probably close

I'm very curious how people actually get coins like these. The obviously can't be rolled, so they're somehow making it into circulation without being rolled. You'd also think that the very first person to get his/her hands on it would keep it, rather than offer it to somebody else as change. Most non-coin collectors wouldn't know a rare/valuable variety penny if they saw it, nor would they even be inspecting their pocket change in the first place. On the other hand, I would expect that most non-collectors would grab this coin up instantly and hide it, assuming it would be very valuable.
I just don't understand how coins like this are ever found in circulation!!

Well that shows how much I know...after a decade working as a Federal Bank Examiner, I always thought that coins initially left the mint wrapped. I thought bags were only used on pre-circulated coins.

These coins were obviously picked out by someone who works at one of the contractors who rolls the coin for distibution to the banks .
going to those facilities is the only place that coins are in bags now days .

I really have no idea where they came from. My grandmother gave them to me and I have always held on to them. She told me to hold on to them and that they may be worth something one day.
