AG - lack of details. Is it me or does that ED look fairly recent?

IMO, this is at least VG-details

The obverse has more detail than the reverse. If I'm not mistaken this is a Type 2 reverse which tends to have weaker details on the reverse.

Obverse VG, Reverse AG. Overall G-Details, harshly cleaned.

Picked it up at Canton First Monday Trade Days, probably 15+ years ago, that's about as recent as it could be. It was like that when I bought it, to the best of my knowledge. Couple of bucks, but it was 100 years before the year I was born.

ds, I agree; I put together so far mint sets for 1878 and 1978. Obviously, the 1978 is in a lot better shape. Can't quite do 2078 yet, and 1778 didn't exactly have many American coins to choose from.

Could go back 1000 years and look for coins from AD 978, not sure how well that would work :P
