Why the ?

I think it is a nice coin with VF details. Nice complete letting and numbers. Is VG-10 the EAC net grade?

I like it. Do you know why they didn't spell out AMERICA? It's only two more letters

Well john-- it must have been a Politically correct type of thing. Or how's this -- for a reason ?->
As the Federal government decided that the US should have its own currency as a country -the very idea struck fear to some as the reprisals were certain from the BRITISH or something to that effect or even from the FRENCH.
The Pine tree shilling had the same date 1652 for many years after because they didn't want to raise suspicion that they were minting as a country- ect ect. So ---as u can assume that ahhhh as its popular to believe -there was No room on the coin to put the whole word in ? -that's BS. It could have even been deliberate as a style as they was still in experimental stage*. There was other coins that were abbreviated before this federal coinage came to light. So it was a common practice--to do so until somebody quickly said ummmm No --and to spell the whole name out !
That is mine theory AA

Veremont--- interesting to note- is the Chain Never was to represent a bad omen or slavery as it ended up appearing with the visual results likes the looks of a chain that's fit for prison -versos with the original intention for unity symbol. The Fugio cent is a good example with more pleasing circular Rings pattern joined together. What a difference Between a Q and a O --but a prison look---? U must be mad --aside for George refusing to have his portrait on the coins.
