Nevertheless, unless authentication is your goal I wouldn't invest a grading fee on this common-date half eagle. Report this Post to the Staff

I don't like the amount of wear on the front of the crown in front of Liberty and the hair beneath it. I'm going to say XF45 - AU50. The slabbing of old US gold makes them easier to sell I'd imagine. Should allay some fears of counterfeits. That would be the reason I'd have it slabbed. I don't see the slab as adding any value here really but it will make it more marketable and honestly, that should lead to a slightly higher price. Not sure if that small potential bump is worth it versus the cost of slabbing. Report this Post to the Staff
