MM were hand punched into the dies until 1989, so they do vary in location.

This one kind of reminded me of this Rpm http://www.coppercoins.com/lincoln/...ie_state=lds

Through 1989,stopped in 1990.1989 was the last year for hand punching each working die with a MM.

Good information guys. I knew they stopped hand punching, just wasn't sure when.

My brain was looking at this one and though the mint mark punched pushed the die over a bit when it was punched so close to that date device. It actually moved the tail of the 9 over a bit and that is why it is thinner in that device.

You have to think this one a bit. But the die is incuse, the punch was making an incuse mark to near the date. The die moved just a bit making all the tails of the 9 from that die thinner in that are for the life of the die. As quick as it took me to close that screen, my brain pulled me back to that with that answer. (no wonder I get headaches so often) LOL
