Is that an E from a clash? The tiny 5 an 7 (?) are in the corner of what looks like a backward E. But should be incuse. Interesting.

by the way!

Yes. That does look like a leading 3. Do you see a backward E? The 357 is right in the corner of the bottom of the backward E. It may be better in hand.

The 357 is a counter stamp someone put on the coin. Relatively common and there is a thread here you may want to browse. Use the Search tool find threads of interest here.

I came across a nickel last night: counterstamped with NRA. I've found a number of these locally. There must be a member in the region with plenty of time on hand.

Here's a link to a site on clashes. Take a look at the overlay. You'll note that the E on your coin (if it is an E) would be incuse and probably tucked behind Lincolns bust (and pointing in the opposite direction). There are a number of experts who frequent the site so they'll be along to help diagnose what you have there. Mike Diamond, BJ Neff, Coop or another of our seasoned members will have something more for us here.

...and a lesson about magnification. Sometimes it's misleading especially when trying to determine a minor variety. Sometimes it amplifies things that aren't really there. You'll see what I mean after hanging here with us for a while. Welcome to CCF and the learning!

I agree with you. I focus in on a particular anomaly and may be missing a bigger picture.
Thanks for the warm welcome also. Looking to learn alot from the experienced.

Well put Tommy. Very nice first photos by the way. Nice photos period! You'll see here that if folks can see what you see, the process goes much smoother.

No they don't look punched in at all. Very confusing. The numbers are almost invisible the width of a human hair.

I was looking at the counter stamp topic. All of the examples there can not be confused for what they are. Big bold stamps. This is not even close to being a stand out marking. It took me a while to figure out what I was even looking at.
