I have a similar item, actually struck as a medal, that has the loon on one side, and Brian Mulroney (with a very large chin) on the other. The coin looks like a loon dollar, but has the denomination 69 cents on it (I assume to immortalize the first time the Canadian dollar fell below 70 cents US$...)

If by any chance anyone has one of those for sale I would appreciate a PM. Collecting as a "sales tax token" although I realize GST is considerably different.

My humourous relief is very high! Thankyou for your healthy cynicism. Helps to keep us all commonsensical and level headed.

Amazing how the Loon tanked in the past months. Well, it's just the pendulum swigging backward. 15 years ago my Canadian dollar was only worth 62 cents. Almost back to normal...

There is pretty funny Pierre Trudeau token too, but since it immortalised his famous "gesture", and this _is_ a family-friendly forum, I cannot show the token. But there will be one for sale on Sean Isaac's (Alliance Coin & Banknote) upcoming "wild-and-wacky" ebay sale...

sums up the time period nicely. I love the written caption. The artist was creative. I miss the 2 dollar bill. Just shows where our money was headed, its been down hill ever since. I am not a fan of the new plastic bills. We are missing the elegance of the older designs.
