Thanks, John. Makes me wonder how many of these kinds I have missed! Anyway, I find so few of anything worth keeping - it is good to find this!

Wish it was in better shape. I have searched so many rolls over the past decade, that I stopped looking at coins with less that great eye appeal. I know I am most likely tossing away doubled dies and RPMs, but I just cant bare the thought of finding one of the big ones only to find out it has a major flaw.

It looks like the Die Deterioration affected the outside devices on the motto a bit. Thus some of the notching and tops of the motto may not show the earlier die state hub doubling. The lines on CENT are also at a different angle. But because of the later die state, this could happen. The hub doubling on the top and bottom of the bust are partly there. But I feel this is a match for this die, just a different die state.

I knew that some of the features were not as clear as I wanted, but only thought of circulation wear as being the cause. I had not thought about the possibility of Die Deterioration. Thanks for that. I still look at worn coins unless they really are beyond all hope! I would rather find something than find nothing at all! Living in South Texas, I see Philadelphia Mint coins in about 5% to 10% of the coins I see. I don't know whether or not it is true that a huge percentage of errors and varieties are from the Philadelphia Mint, but it certainly seems that way! I have heard you guys express similar frustrations!

More like .1 percent on the coast of Arizona. When they get here they look pretty bad. Mostly snow birds bring them here.

Quote: on the coast of Arizona I have never hear this phrase - what does it mean? Where I live we refer to the "coast" to mean the coast of the Gulf of Mexico.
