Original without cleaning, nice strike, good luster, 64 for sure, good shot at 65. The reverse is one of my all time favorites. Congratulations. It's a beauty.

Definitely a nice mint state example! Congrats!
The Antietam is one of the more popular coins in the classic US commemorative series. Its Civil War theme and well-executed design by William Marks Simpson create a desirable combination for collectors.
An interesting side note: The battle is referred to as either the Battle of Antietam (the North/Union name for it) or the Battle of Sharpsburg (the South/Confederacy name). It's not surprising that the coin uses the North's name for the battle considering it was sponsored by the Washington County Historical Society of Hagerstown, Maryland; Maryland fought as part of the Union.

Very nice coin...Commems is spot on with this. My great great grandfather fought in this battle as well as other relatives. When discussed with my family it is always referred to Battle of Sharpsburg.

Very nice coin, and I agree ..I love the history associated with it. The reverse (Burnside bridge) is named after Gen. Ambrose Burnside From who we get the facial term "side burns"

General Burnside also designed and patented the Burnside Carbine.... A new technology and very popular weapon during the war.

Another lovely example Antares68 of your collection assembled somehow in Italy. I acknowledge and salute your interest and dedication to the USA classic silver commemorative series. I can only imagine the challenges presented to a foreign collector of these coins ... well done indeed to acquire what you have shown so far. Appreciate as always commems informed contributions ... I fully concur that your Antietam half dollar is authentic and mint state. Just for fun and sharing ... I made a trip to the Antietam battlefield and took this photo ... trying my best to capture William Marks Simpson perspective on the coin of the Burnside Bridge ... It looks today much the same as seen on your coin. Truly best of wishes for your collecting efforts from Italy. David

Thank you all for the positive comments. Especially thank "commems" for the historical references on the coin, I try too, to investigate For every coin that I possess And thanks to "nickelsearcher" for sharing his photos of this place untouched and wonderful, and for the appreciation of my collection. As I may have mentioned, are more than four years that I try to assemble this set. Even here in Italy the classic commemorative are well known, appreciated and searched among the collectors. Sorry again for my English. Greetings Antonio
