Found a couple 1999 SAE's with strike through (I assume it's plastic)on the obverses. As I looked closer I noticed the one with the pac-man shaped error also has the reeding of the edge coming up over the lip and is slightly squished out. Would this be considered two errors? Thanks in advance for any help!

Picked up two from a guy who found nine strike thru's in one tube. I'm pretty new to collecting ASE's...is something like this rare? Or something more common? Really hard to find info on mint errors for the ASE. Would it increase the value? I will probably have both coins graded by NGC.

Scott. Are you sure they are legit ASEs? I collect ASEs but have never seen anything like this (but that doesn't mean yours are not genuine errors). However we'll need a bit more info to help. Where did you find them? The crispness of the letters in the "struck through" area concerns me, but I'm no expert.

to CCF. I have already seen these for sale on a TV coin show going for a few hundred dollars in, I think PCGS or maybe NGC slabs. I like them and they are errors. There are a few on the bay. John1

Nice coins....
but...I would think a "strike through", by definition, would be struck through a foreign object..wire..grease..etc. and thus have a markedly decreased strike in the affected area.
These coins have a normal, full strike in that area not impeded by the object.
The coins are not laminated so that is out.
I would go with a planchet flaw of some kind with a normal strike...
..and I have no explanation for Pac Man...it looks like a strike under there and a normal strike over it...which makes me VERY suspicious of it's authenticity and, put it together with the other similar the whatever-it-is error makes me question that one also
I would have them certified by NGC.

They're genuine coins with genuine strike-through errors. No doubt. When struck through things object/substances, the details cand still be relatively sharp. This is the most common error found on ASEs. The one coin may also have a minor finned rim.
If you can get them close to melt, you would be doing very, very well. Nice pair of error coins!

Very nice. I too though am wondering how the devices can form. Must have been a very pliable substance like soft plastic. Fyi, the error you really want to find in a roll is a clip. They're super rare on ASE's with only I think 9 known out of the bazillion ASE's minted

I like that ASE. Many of these have already been graded by NGC and PCGS and they are not rare, but they are also not common. Perhaps scarce might be the best definition. Certainly worth more than bullion value.

The coins were found by a guy who bought a tube and 9 of them were strike thru. He took them to a coin store and verified that they are genuine. Plus all the weights are right on. After meeting and speaking with the guy I am confident he was on the up and up. I did see a similar error but on the reverse going for $895 on APMEX. I know their prices are seriously inflated, but what is a realistic value for Pac Man if it grades? Thank you for all the replies!

Nice coins. I would have said they look like lamination but as posted above since the alloy is .999 silver there wouldn't be enough other metal involved to get a bad mixing. Congrats.

I don't think they're THAT rare, I have a 2010 with a similar strike through. I certainly wouldn't pay $895 for one.
