I also picked this one up today. 1865 Indian I think fancy 5 I'm thinking ms63. I was hoping for a ms64 but on the top right of the shield it looks like some wear.

If it is wear, then automatically AU-58. But it might be strike weakness.

Usually, TPG's will "market grade" an AU coin like this (if it is wear) as a lower MS grade.

Yes, its a fancy 5 variety. lovely color regardless of AU to low MS. I think its strike weakness MS62

Throw it up on ebay with great, juicy red pictured (don't doctor or juice them though), and you should expect low MS RD money.

Send it to a TPG. They will probably give it an MS Red grade. If it comes back AU, you'd have a buyer right here. Lovely coin.

Pics out of the 2x2 would help tremendously. Puts too much glare on the coin.

My understanding is that any wear is AU , is that right? Cant tell from the photo however, out of the 2x2 flat on a surface would help

To me, yes, any wear is AU. To a TPG, there can be a gray fuzzy line between AU/UNC if the coin looks nice enough.

I have seen an MS-67 commem with some noticable wear on the high points get an MS-63/64 before.

Thanks I would take ms62 or ms63. I dididn't think about taking out of the 2x2. Working on getting better at the pictures.
