Hello,
I was wondering if you could give me your thoughts/opinions/answers on the following. I have recently been looking at UNC
Buffalo nickels and a few issues have come up.
1. I have seen luster described in different ways. What are the different types of luster? For example, what designates a "satin" type luster? What do you prefer?
2. When looking at strike, I usually rely more on the reverse (shoulder fur, tail, and fur detail around the horn.). For the obverse, I look at the ribbons and the knot along with general hair detail and complete "Liberty" strike. Is there anything else you look for?
Finally,
3. What are your thoughts on wood-grain toning? I am referring to the brown streaks often seen (I think this results from the alloying process). Do you like it, dislike it, or not care?
Thanks everyone!
