Hey Ken,
Is this your web site, you provided the link to 'templates'?

I frequently check the "coin inventory software" thread to read newest replies, thinking maybe
someone posted something new I haven't seen.

Well, let me tell you....a new member Thanks you for a software link, of course had no idea
what software link this was and had to check it out. Thought it was 'recent' but didn't see
anything and had to go further back. and there it was!!
http://typesets.wikidot.com/free-coin-templates
In the same thread I see references to the Numismatic's Notebook which is less then $10.
so I bought it. I'll just say I am not happy with it.

I've recently been working with Microsoft Works...it sucks, in my opionon.
I like to 'color-code'(shaded cells) depending on what I am working with.
In MS Works, not many colors to choose from and the colors are IMO a
bit too bright. Also Nancy sent me a spreadsheet for Aussie coins and
MS Works wouldn't open the complete file because of 'hyberlinks'.
So the file was incomplete and a total waste.
I tried to open the template for' Australian Coin Inventory' from this site
and MS Works wouldn't allow (turns out it was the same template Nancy sent me).

Further down I see FREE OFFICE SOFTWARE.
Yes, I remember seeing this but was reluctent to download it before
because of the 'size' of the download (96MB) and wasn't sure what
the heck "Office Software" was. But I took the chance and downloaded it... took about 10 min.

Once the download and installation was complete I tried the spreadsheet from Nancy and....

Ken's-Template-Software--Questions/Answers/Updates

MAN O MAN What a BIG difference !! No problem in opening the entire spreadsheet.
I AM IMPRESSED! ...............AND I am getting rid of MS WORKS...

I absolutely love the OpenOffice.org software! most especially it's FREE!
and the 'colors' I can use are awesome!
Now I've got something else to 'play and create' with.

Oh and one other thing, it allows me to change font size within same cell such as 1909 VDB.!

I'm sure I'll discover other stuff I can do with this software. I'm still 'playing' with it.

Ken's-Template-Software--Questions/Answers/Updates THANKS KEN !!

Thanks Mila,

Yes that is my site

I try not to advertise about it here too much as that's not my motivation for being here. I pretty much use it as my dumping ground for different collecting solutions people come up with.

I'm so glad you like Open Office! It really is a great tool set. One feature that I like is that you can save a file as pdf. The word processing (writer) and power point (impress) and also very good and for the average user they're just as good as Microsoft and in some cases easier to use.

Ken's-Template-Software--Questions/Answers/Updates

BTW which Pick # is this note? 51? 57?

Can these files (spreadsheets be saved on a DVD/CD with the Office software? or just the file it self?) I'd like to have a seperate backup from the main system.

Thanks,
mila_

Just the file itself. But you can also due a "save as" and save it as a microsoft excel file (most spreadsheet programs can import excel files).

I'd recommend saving a backup in two formats (one in open office and one in excel)

Forgot to mention...Have you figured out how to anchor pictures to cells? If not, simply single click on the picture, then right click once and choose the anchor command.

Forget Excel...I don't have it.

Anchor?

This is what I've been doing as far as inserting images:
Highlighting the cell I want the pic to go, click the 'insert' scroll to 'Picture' then 'File from' where I have the pic (on my desktop).
Then I scale it to size to fit cell. I just discovered that by right clicking
on the pic I can 'lock pic and size' within the cell. COOL!

Now, is there a way to click on the pic to see it zoomed? Do I add some sort of commands to do this?

If I save this as a PDF file will I be able to edit/add with Adobe Reader? I do have a copy.
One of the reasons I didn't like Numismatic Notebook was that after inserting a pic all it did was take me to where the original image was, I wanted to see it zoomed (larger).

As time goes by and I continue playing and creating, rest assure I will be back with more questions. If you don't mind.

I just tried to 'open' an .ods file in MS Works. It will not open. So MS works is not an option.

Thanks,
mila_

Sorry about this, but you cannot edit PDF with Acrobat reader

In regards to backing up, just add the 96mb open office download file to the disk during your fist backup. (note: if you deleted the file don't forget to check your recycle bin)

Hi Ken,

I've completed my editing for the Polymer notes as shown
above and saved it as a PDF file.
I would like to be able to click on the image (in the PDF file)
to see it zoomed.
Is there a special command to add into the .org file
(before saving as PDF)that needs to be added to enable the 'zoom'
feature in the PDF file?

Thanks!

I honestly do not know. But there are some pdf options you can set (see instructions below) during export and that is about the limit of my knowledge (my apologies).

Do not export by clicking on the pdf icon. Instead if you click on the "File" option on the menu bar you will see a menu selection for "Export as PDF" (click on this). This should bring up a PDF Options dialog box that you can play with.

Ken, no need for apologies.
You have been very helpful and I appreciate your time and patience.
You've educated me in something I didn't before and that's a good thing.

Thanks,
