I just got in some blank US mint plastic capsules for Silver Eagles. How do you open these capsules?
I tried to insert the tip of a knife into the two edges and it still will not open.
Thanks for any help on this.

I would try a razor blade. Once the edge is in the seam, turn it and it should open. If you are still having problems, ease the razor blade around the capsule lightly turning the blade as you go. Eventually, you will get it separated enough to be able to open it.

If using that razor blade method remember to use a single edged one. I've got lots of stupid cuts thinking I know enough to use a double edged one for everything. (sekeno: wrong caliber. To large, might blow it away)

That is how I do it, although sometimes I use a very fine knife blade instead. But they both work. However, be careful to do it gently so that the blade doesn't slip off the capsule and cut your hand! Best of luck!

Chuckster, The guys and gals here are just being silly because one of our members posted "how not to open a slab" on 2/24/08 and it was like something right out of "Saturday Night Live"! Hey, they don't need those union writers after all! They could just hire a bunch of coin forum members instead! Hang in there Chuckster! This is a great place to be! Gussyboy1
