As a complete newcomer to paper money collecting I wonder if you have any tips on the best places to buy lower grade old notes online.

I am based in the UK so online sellers that would post 'over the water' would be great.

I have been checking out ebay but UK ebay is terrible for US bills and on ebay.com some of the US shipping charges are like $20 or $30 which is mad for a letter sized envelope.

I'm looking for anything 1900 to 1935, or thereabouts, lower grades are fine but I am on a tight budget so inexpensive is good.

Would ebay be my best bet, or are there any other places to try?

And also are there any online price guides similar to Numismedia?

Many thanks

In your case I would just go to a local coin shop

We don't really have coin shops over here hence why I'm looking at US sellers.

Then you should buy to buyers who offer free international shipping ;)
Rest in Peace

You have enough posts to be allowed to post a Want List on this site. Also, you're not far from being able to trade on this site.

You might just want to give that a shot first. I really don't know what it costs to ship an small package to the UK but I, too, think $20 to $30 is ridiculous to ship an item that isn't worth half that amount.

According to our beloved USPS this rate would apply:

Quote:
First-Class MailŪ International Letter. Value of contents can not exceed $400.00. Max. length 11-1/2", height 6-1/8" or thickness 1/4"

$3.46 for a 3 oz letter as configured above from my zipcode in Washington State. There would be no tracking on that.

I think ebay is your best bet for lower-grade, circulated notes. Plenty to be found. There are also many international sellers on ebay. I've purchased a number of notes from international sellers with very reasonable shipping (less than $5 US for 20 various notes). Now, it takes a while to get here, but I can wait.
