Has anyone heard about this scam? Unfortunately I fell for it today. 40 2015 1 OZ eagles for $485 OBO BIN. I made the purchase but instead of the payment immediately going through it went to "pending" for about 3 hours. Finally it went through. A few hours later I get an email from ebay stating "the item you have bought is no longer available." I quickly opened a case and now the item completely disappeared from my history but I was still charged the full $485 on my paypal (credit card)! Looking back at completed listings, this appears to be a common scam. http://www.ebay.com/itm/40-2013-Sil...191779751105http://www.ebay.com/itm/40-2015-1oz...221983793434http://www.ebay.com/itm/40-2015-1oz...151929282967http://www.ebay.com/itm/40-2015-1oz...291643624748Above are all the same pictures/item sold by different user names all from MN. I don't doubt I'll get my money back eventually but this is a pretty odd scam. I used credit card through paypal so worst possible case I'd do a charge back on my card. Anyone hear of this scam? What's the point, wouldn't they lose the money when ebay refunds me? I've opened cases with both ebay and paypal. Edited by LibertyEagle20 01/25/2016 8:19 pm

Fascinating all from the same city too it really connects it all together. Paypal and Minnesota Law enforcement or the Feds should get on the goon. I would do a charge back immediately and file a fraud report.
I'm not sure how they could make money unless PayPal can't place holds on new accounts anymore. If that is true and there isn't a hold they could right away use your money to say buy a digital gift card and then burn the account before anyone could pull money out of the account leaving PayPal with the cat in the bag. I would think the law would catch up to you rather quick and it be traceable but who says criminals are smart. Can you sell things from a unverified PayPal account?
He did it six times since Chrisrmas looks like it all different accounts in St. Paul. Most of them have the same pictures but not all. I'm thinking the idiot actually lives there idk. Interesting wire fraud not sure how they haven't caught on yet.

The odd thing is you can at least see the other listings, when you go to the one I bought it says the item has been removed. One stupid thing ebay does, is once this happened.. I can't even leave feedback. I'm assuming that is why all the listings above show a seller with a (0) rating instead of (-1).

I doubt feedback matters to him they are one time use accounts. He even used erase me in one of his sellers account. He makes an account sets it up so that someone will buy it extremely quickly then abandons it and assume launders the money buying something else. I doubt one would commit wire fraud just for giggles. I'm going to have to figure out how to have a alert everytime 40 ASE get put up for sell buy it now for anything more then $100 under then the going price just to see how long his streak continues. He's a idiot if he keeps doing this because patterns are the easiest way to be caught, reminds me of something some kid would do.

I restored the original post. Please do not do that again, it is confusing. If you want it to go away, send a note to the staff (use Report Post link in lower right).

So the day this happened I also opened a Paypal dispute thinking I could stop the charge from going through. Within 1 minute of opening the PP case, ebay emailed me saying my case had been closed by them (within ebay). The transaction completely disappeared from my ebay purchase history and there is no record I even opened a case with ebay. The listing was removed as well so there is no record on ebay that this transaction even happened. Luckily I received an email from Paypay today saying they reviewed the case and I'll have my refund in 5 days. Seems shady that ebay removed the listing but I'm just happy I'm getting my money back.

Fwiw, there is still a way to find the transaction. I had a case closed in my favor, and the purchase disappeared from my history. I wanted to leave feedback, and called ebay, and they agreed that negative feedback was warranted, and they walked me through a fairly easy way to still find the transaction to leave feedback, but it escapes me now.

Yes - it was a completed sale so IMO it should stay on the site and I should be able to easily leave a bad feedback and see it in my purchase history. If it wasn't sold I would agree it should be removed right away so no one gets scammed.

SA, Have you clicked the ebay tab then click on purchase history and scroll down to the bottom of the page to check if the transaction is still shown on your account?
