Hello from Lawrence, Kansas.
I had an interest in coins when I was a kid but lost touch over the years. However, after inheriting some coins recently (none of which turned out to be valuable), I have been re-discovering the joys of going through old jars of change and finding interesting things.
So far in searching through about 100 dollars in change from various sources I have not found much of interest, just one 1970-S nickel, two wheat pennies from 1949, two 1964 nickels, and a Canadian 1965 penny. Lots and lots of rotted post-1982 pennies. But I'm having a fun time.
I'm not in this to make money, just to see neat stuff and think about how much of the world some of these coins have seen.

The rotted zircoins go to Coinstar (none have been rejected so far), the proceeds donated to the Humane Society. Everything else is getting put back into circulation via various methods...buying coffee, depositing a few dollars into the bank, etc. I get a kick out of putting stuff back into the economy that has been sitting in a jar for 10 years!

Your story sounds just like mine. I was insterested in coins when I was really young and I have always set aside any coin that was older than me. When I inherited a a bunch of old coins, it reignited my interest. And like you, I haven't found anything really valuable but I enjoy the hunt. So welcome to the family and happy hunting!
