Good Evening,

I bought a large amount of Canadian Silver around the millennium.

Majority was 1963-1967 Proof Sets in the Yellow envelopes.

Next was bags of what they thought were "junk"

Low and Behold My your son unearthed a few bags in house and asked "where did all this money come from?

Since we are the cashless fiat world, a bag thats two feet tall was a surprise to both he and I.

Most of the coins are QEII or George V and VI ten and 25 cents.
Lots of Half Dollars and Dollars as well. Some Victoria, but definitely the smallest piece

At the bottom of the bag we found a few hundred maybe 300-500 of the tiny 5 cent silvers, again mostly George V followed by Ed and some Victoria. Since I bought all of this years ago when Silver was $6 an ounce, I have never owned a price guide, but obviously have looked on ebay or google.

when I looked up some of the Victoria Coins , I noticed huge price diffs for different obvereses or other tiny things I have no idea of.

if any of you can tell me, or better yet show photos of what the different obverse types look like, I would appreciate that very much.

I would note that most all of these coins are lower grade say between AG - VF for Victoria

The Edward probably up to xf or au
got a few gens from george v
quite a few from george vi
and tons from QEII

i have figured out what most of the other errors or varieties mean, but obverese, I have no clue.

My son is four, but has looked and played with coins since he was 2.

I ordered him a magnifier and I told him this was his job as long as he wanted it. Explaining numismatic terms to him may be difficult as he is only 4.

Thanks Again

Best,
SQ

quite the "junk bag". a truly amazing score! I collect the 5 cent silvers and would love to have the problem you do. The amount of obverse varieties on the Vickies are probably too many to post here (unless someone is feeling ambitious). I suggest you get an updated Charlton Standard Guide. They give you large photos of all the different obverse and reverse varieties, for all denominations. It's a great beginner book for Canadian coinage and you will learn a lot from it.

Yes you need a Charlton but if you can't find one (in the Chicago area)and want to get started you could try this link to get an idea whats going on. Remember to click on the actual date of your coin for more info, and feel free to post here with pics and experts here will be happy to help.
