Had to think twice on this one. Obverse looks funky, but the rim is the dead giveaway here. Very crude, looks like the rims off of Chinese fakes.

I would have to tip towards fake based on the Sellers Items, Location and CHD comment ... Anyone in their right mind would avoid .....

But not sure, I have not handled enough Trade dollars to know!

bobby, you are not taking drews word as gospel are you?
He is pretty good at fakes, but he is 17 years old? He doesn't have the experience others like you do.
Experience is everything..

It would be a shame to have a coin removed and be real.

a guy I know at Golden Eagle, had a gold coin on ebay some time ago, he was told to take it down as it was fake, by THIS forum... he did that, sent it for authentication and it came back as genuine. So, people here do make mistakes.

Chinese counterfeit Trade dollars frequently exhibit problems with the date, the denticles and the mint mark (and mismatched obverse and reverse types).

Of concern with this coin is the UNEVEN denticles on both the obverse and reverse. The denticles on genuine coins are the same size and of consistent shape. The denticles on the obverse of this coin are longer on the left and shorter on the right, especially the lower right quadrant. The reverse denticles are also not consistent.

The reverse seems to be struck offcenter, but the obverse seems well centered.

The genuine coin is from http://www.coincommunity.com/us_dol...e_dollar.asp

I don't take anyone's word for gospel. I am the first screening and there are several experts screening after me.

Misaligned dies do exactly that.

Not sure but a misaligned die might cause the denticle problem too.
