I've never really understood machine Doubling/Die chatter. The MM is part of the design on the die.Why is the date & the bust not affected by this movement at all.

looks like Die Deterioration on nickels when the die is very late stage and is worn down you see this effect around outer devices like lettering date and mint mark

That was my initial thought, but then I noticed that the anomoly is all going the same direction. On deterioration you tend to see it almost complete around the mm. Almost like a smaller mark sitting squarely on top of a bigger mark. See the inside of the P in your photo, how the doubling is all the way around the inside? Whereas in th OP photo it resembles a doubld die much more becaue it is all on the same side of the device.

very cool didn't know that...very similar that should be easy to remember just the all directions DD vs single direction MD

on that page I dig that 1991 cent with huge full face MD I would so keep that one...
