I don't know much about coins and would like to know if my 1923 silver dollar is quite unique or what. I have searched the internet looking under "error coins" and cannot find any thing re: missing numbers or letters. The 1 (one) is missing from the date. Also the "N" in GOD WE TRUST is also missing. I am new to the forum and

Any information I get would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Lew

Greetings lewgrey! Welcome to the boards.

I'm sorry to say that your silver dollar is just a victim of post-mint damage. It looks like damage probably from a coin counting machine.

Is it really that gray in color?

It almost looks like a copy of some sort. The color, if accurate is unusual. What more can you tell us about the color? Any chance of weighing it?

Thanks

I definitely see a circular line from the L in liberty down through the IN and date. The N and the 1 was flattened by what ever made that mark.

it's also got the damage by the "L" -- incomplete version of the damage we saw on the Saca dollar in another thread.

Well, I am impressed with all of the help and opinions. Thanks much. Since I am unacustomed to your forum and only see this one place to respond, I guess I am supposed to answer everyone here. The color is a result of incorrect white balance setting of the camera. I am sure it is not a copy, I have over 40 dollars and it is no differnt from the others. I have no way to accurately weigh it.

Use a dowel and a long pop stick and measure exact center pencil line mark and position as seesaw and then place silver dollars on both ends. Check your coin for minor doubled reverse.
