The grainy surfaces bother me. I suspect it's been chemically treated.

Personally, I think it's a great-looking coin.

There's at least 3 obverse hits and 1 scratch . the graininess bothers me too. however the coin is fully struck , FH .Full Shield ,gorgeous reverse. will let SLQ Experts do the grading.

Looks either MS or chemically treated to me. Hard to tell from the pics but I think it could be MS64. I checked similar on heritage and found a few MS coins with some graininess. Maybe send it in to NGC or PCGS for grading. PCGS list price $400 in MS64.

Truth is, pictures lie. Everyone can give you an opinion, no one can tell with certainty that they have been cleaned or dipped. Just that the surfaces " look odd". Take it to a coin shop/expert to be examined in hand, or send it in to be graded. While I don't have a type I the others that I have , can have that pitted look when photographed.
If the surfaces prove to be genuine, you paid 1/3 to 1/4 of what it is worth. Perhaps that should be the first clue to the puzzle

Possibly dipped, but not a deal breaker. Nice luster, and FH. I'd send it in.
