A multitude of varieties can also be found within PL sets. Just to name only a few (Charlton Vol 1 lists them all under the category of "MS NC" for anyone who might be confused by the various references)
2007 - 10c, both curved 7 or straight 1974 - 25c, Large bust or Small bust (already mentioned) 1978 - 25c, Large or small denticles 1983 - 1c, Near or far beads 1974 - $1.00, yoke varieties
Many, many more.....
Curious, is anyone a variety collector of Uncirculated Sets? I'm not although I do have an accumulation of Uncirculated Sets. However if I were a new collector I can see how it might prove a good challenge to find all the different types of varieties within existing intact sets.
Edit to add: I hadn't noticed your pic, penny guy, Good timing! I tried photographing a couple different varieties as well but gave up.

There is also the 1979 pointed bust 50c PL set and the 1999 Nunavut mule. I know collectors of PL set varieties, obviously the Double Yoke #1 and #3 are quite difficult to find intact.

Agreed, SPP, the very rare and valuable varieties in the decades past have been so well searched, the chance of buying those at regular price of a standard uncirculated set is next to none. Noticing the vast quantities of cut up " PL" coin on ebay, makes me wonder what percentage of intact sets still remain. Certainly as each year goes by there are less and less. I also notice most of the sets sold do not specify the common varieties, for example the 1978 25c small or large denticles and 50c square or round jewels where the value is about equal, makes variety collecting all the more challenging.

Any day of the week you can find a #3 1974 double yoke PL Set on ebay but the rarest is a #9 in a set. In 10 years I'v only seen 1 on ebay and it sold for $370.00 with lots of interest. The #8,10 and 11s show up often.

" looking at your loonie it sure looks like bubbles in the plastic covering. I had that one time and with a close examination under the microscope it made it very clear thats what it was."
It is definitely plating bubbles on the coin itself. I have examined it closely and moved the plastic around to also confirm this. Thanks!
